On Site Support in Asia

Situation:   You have a product in development that will be manufactured in Asia.

You are on a tight schedule and someone from your company needs to go to the factory and meet with the manufacturing engineers face-to-face to resolve several issues.
  • Scenario #1:   Your product was engineered in Asia and there have been some schedule delays that are affecting your marketing plan. You want to send an engineer along with your product manager to the manufacturing plant to resolve the issues and get back on schedule.
     
  • Scenario #2: You have a junior engineer assigned to your project who has never been to Asia and you would be more comfortable if you could send someone with him/her that has experience in dealing with tooling and manufacturing engineers and can help plan the trip to ensure success.

Pre-Production Meeting

These are common situations. Nothing impresses your Asian partners more than a personal visit to their facilities. They take great pride in showing you what they can do and communications always improve when you can each put a face to a name. I will work closely with you and your Asian partners to resolve design and production issues quickly and amicably.

Secondly, creative solutions to problems come much faster when you are collaborating right there. You can often try several solutions quickly to arrive at the best one. When samples need to get shipped back and forth, you lose time and frequently never get to the most creative solution. I have done it both ways and it always seems to work out better if you can make the trip to the manufacturing site and deal with the problems there.

Most of my engineering projects have taken me to Hong Kong and Southern China, but several have been in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
